The KU Library has received the Good Award for Excellent Service Enhancement in the Thailand Public Services Awards for the Year 2013 from the Office of the Public Sector Development Commission (OPDC) through submitting its work entitled Knowledge Service on the Green Path: Library for Life and Environment (Eco-Library)”which is the work that the KU Library acts as the knowledge center and knowledge provider for the public, playing an important role in jointly solving the environmental issues by giving the correct information on environment and providing life-long learning opportunities for disadvantaged youth and the public, promoting reading to Thai people and the increase of Thai youth’s reading rate. Currently, Thai youth’s average reading rate is only 2-5 books a year and the rate has been astoundingly decreasing. To increase intelligence through reading together with the knowledge on environment is a way to conserve the earth. As a result, the library for life and environment (Eco-Library) was established at the time when the environmental issues were critical aiming to be the source of knowledge on environment and the disadvantaged youth’s learning center, to provide opportunities for communities surrounding the campus. The services are opened for the public without any charges.
